What is the Baltimore Red Line?

The Red Line is a proposed Light Rail transit project that will create the Baltimore region's first east-west rapid transit connection between west Baltimore County and east Baltimore City, connecting the areas of Woodlawn, Edmondson Village, West Baltimore, Downtown, Harbor East, Fells Point, Canton and the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Campus. The Red Line could transform travel in the corridor with faster, more reliable service to the region’s job and entertainment centers as well as existing bus and rail services.

Where will the Red Line go?

The Red Line will travel 14.1 miles between west Baltimore County and east Baltimore City, stopping at 19 proposed stations listed below. In addition to serving downtown Baltimore, the line will also reach key Baltimore institutions like the Social Security Administration, University of Maryland at Baltimore and the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center Campus, as well as local attractions such as the Inner Harbor, Gwynn Falls Trails, the historic communities of West Baltimore, as well as the historic Fells Point community.

Red Line Speeds to Victory

Taking the Art Cart for a spin. It's not exactly the Red Line but you could call it "rapid transit." Red Line Community Liaison John Enny teamed up with friends and neighbors, including driver Liam Tallon, to participate in the first-ever Art Cart Derby held October 8th in Highlandtown – taking home the trophy in the "Fastest Art Cart" category. Inspired by classic soapbox racing, the Art Cart Derby is a downhill race between gravity-powered carts with a single driver. Prizes were also awarded for Coolest Cart Concept, Youngest-Oldest Art Cart Team and Fan Favorite.

The Art Cart Derby was hosted by Communities for All Ages, an intergenerational initiative of the Southeast Community Development Corporation and the Creative Alliance at the Patterson. It was sponsored by the Baltimore Community Foundation, Banner Neighborhoods, Highlandtown Community Association, Patterson Park Neighborhood Association, The Loading Dock, and Southeast Anchor Library. The core mission of the event is to bring together members of the community from all generations to interact with local art and each other.

"The Art Cart Derby was a great opportunity to raise awareness of the Red Line and also join with organizations and residents in the Highlandtown/Greektown station area to foster community and creativity," said Enny.
